Who are we?The Outreach Committee is part of ASCE UPRM Student Chapter whose objective is guiding middle and highschool students about what Engineering is, specially Civil Engineering, with the mission of motivating them, through education, to aspire to be professionals in some STEM career.

During this past semester, we had the opportunity to visit some new schools, explain to some middle and high school students how Civil Engineering and Surveying can be applied into our daily lives, and made a variety of activities related to them.

Last year we had the opportunity to participate in the activity of Meteorological Society of Puerto Rico (SMPR),
called Weather Fest. Of all the problems related to the environment and global warming, the presentation was made on coastal erosion, its causes and effects. |
For the last year, the Outreach Committee was in charge of making an explanatory video for the Scholarly Screenings Regional Competition of the ASCE’s annual competitions. The purpose of this competition was to make an instructional video on a relevant engineering software. The Outreach Committee made an Structural Design example of a column made out of reinforced concrete. |

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is the oldest national professional engineering society in the United States. Our chapter at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) counts with more than 200 members, making it one of the largest student chapters in the country, and the largest in our Civil Engineering and Surverying Department.
